Selected handmade purple clay, handmade by Pan Jin with a capacity of about 140cc. Lotus seed teapot sand is an excellent tool in the natural shape of a purple clay teapot. The texture is warm and delicate, with a simple design. The shape of the pot highlights lotus seeds (also known as plucked ones), and the bones and flesh are evenly distributed. Although it appears to be plain and heartless, it reflects the skill and profoundness of the pot artist. The bottom inscription reads, “At the time of Emperor Xinmao’s reign and Emperor Qianrong’s reign, he was seventy-six years old and wrote.”
The maker is Qianrong, surnamed Pan, with the courtesy name Juxuan. During the reign of Emperor Qianlong and Emperor Daoguang of the Qing Dynasty, a pottery maker from Yixing was named among the longevity and elderly in the Yixing County Annals. The tea pot sand he made was finely crafted and highly valued by the local purple sand elders. In Gao Xi’s article “On the Tea Pot: A Gift to Shao Daheng Jun”, this name was also mentioned for the first time. There is a sentence in the text that goes: “… Near the Chrysanthemum Pavilion, and old enough to play with…” There are still two excellent tools that have been passed down.
